Customs Seizes N3.57bn Contraband in Ogun Operations

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, intercepted smuggled goods valued at N3.57 billion in duty-paid value, with operations intensifying from June 24 to the present. Acting Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Olukayode Afeni, announced this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Idiroko.

The seized items included 2,339 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 70 cartons of basmati rice, narcotics, and various consumer goods. Afeni described smuggling as “economic sabotage” that threatens local jobs and food security, warning of health risks associated with smuggled rice.

He stated that the command generated over N90 million in revenue in July 2026 and recorded significant exports. Afeni warned smuggling syndicates of severe consequences, including the seizure of goods and imprisonment.

He urged community leaders to collaborate with security agencies to report suspicious activities. The Deputy Commandant of NDLEA, Wole Fagbohun, acknowledged the importance of inter-agency collaboration in combating drug trafficking.
