Customs Seize 399 Rifles at Tincan Island Port

On Sunday, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) announced the completion of a significant arms seizure at Tincan Island Port, uncovering 399 fully assembled Jojef firearms and a variety of supplementary rifle parts. National Public Relations Officer Abdullah Maiwada stated this development represents a substantial setback to illegal arms proliferation in Nigeria.

The seizure occurred following an interception on Thursday, August 6, 2026, when the NCS discovered a container with concealed crates of Jojef pump-action rifles. The additional parts included 89 frames, 16 heat shields, and various other components.

Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi cautioned that criminal networks might attempt to exploit Nigeria’s borders and ports during the upcoming general elections to smuggle prohibited items. He assured the public of intensified surveillance and enforcement efforts, emphasizing collaboration with the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons to dismantle trafficking networks and enhance national security.
