Customs Seizes 399 Rifles in Tincan Port Shipment

On Thursday, 6 August, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, announced the interception of a container at Tincan Port, which concealed crates of components preliminarily identified as Jojef pump-action rifles. Following a thorough examination, the Nigeria Customs Service, represented by National Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Aliyu, confirmed the recovery of 399 rifles along with various parts, including 89 frames, 16 heat shields, and several other components.

Adeniyi cautioned that criminal networks might attempt to exploit Nigeria's borders, ports, and airports to smuggle prohibited items as the country approaches a major election cycle. He emphasized the commitment of the Customs Service to enhance surveillance and enforcement operations to prevent such activities.

Following the inventory assessment, the seized armaments will be handed over to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).
