Diaspora Athletes Urged to Invest in African Youth

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, during a visit in Abuja, called on diaspora athletes to invest in the development of African youth through sports and mentorship. She received Ejimofor Anosik and Ibrahim Famouk Doumbia, co-founders of the Meta Africa Sport Foundation, which has been supporting young African athletes for the past four to five years.

Dabiri-Erewa praised the foundation's efforts, which include mentoring hundreds of young people across Africa and donating nearly 3,000 pairs of basketball shoes, with 400 pairs going to Nigerian youth. Anosik highlighted the foundation's goal of empowering young Africans through sports education and life skills.

The organization has also run English language training alongside basketball programs to equip participants with broader skills. Doumbia announced plans to launch a basketball tournament in Nigeria later this year to identify emerging grassroots talent.

The foundation opened an academy in Mali last year to offer training in sports, education, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.
