Dambazau Advocates for Independent State Police in Nigeria

Abdulrahman Dambazau, Nigeria's ambassador-designate to China, articulated that state police must operate independently of governors to avoid becoming tools against political adversaries. He called for a robust framework that includes stringent vetting and training of personnel to guarantee competence and curb misconduct.

Dambazau stressed the importance of adhering to human rights and maintaining discipline within the police force. He noted that without proper standards and oversight, the establishment of state police could lead to potential abuses and the emergence of ethnic militias.

He argued that decentralizing the police system would enhance professionalism and build public trust. Dambazau also highlighted the necessity for adequate funding and human capital development to ensure security, particularly in rural areas where law enforcement is minimal.
