Dangote Cement Sanctions Over 250 Drivers for Violations

Dangote Cement, specifically its Ibese plant, sanctioned more than 250 truck drivers for breaching safety rules between 2025 and 2026. During a press briefing in Ogun, the Head of Human Resources, Muhammed Al-Hassan, stated that disciplinary actions included suspension and termination, depending on the severity of the violations.

In 2025, 200 drivers were sanctioned, with over 50 more disciplined in 2026. The company maintains a strict safety policy, allowing only adequately trained drivers to operate its trucks.

Offences such as speeding, illegal haulage, and accidents attract appropriate sanctions. Al-Hassan emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards safety breaches while also recognizing responsible drivers.

The Head of Operations, David Idiege, noted that sanctions could extend to drivers' guarantors in serious cases, and legal action may be pursued in incidents resulting in fatalities. Dangote Cement's road-safety strategy includes rigorous training, real-time monitoring, and incentives for safe driving to enhance accountability and minimize road crashes.
