Ghana's Tema Refinery Resumes Operations, Impact on Dangote Exports

The Tema Oil Refinery in Ghana, with a capacity of 45,000 barrels per day, has resumed operations after being largely inactive since April 2021. This development may decrease Ghana's dependence on fuel imports, including from Nigeria.

Ghana's largest fuel supplier, Nigeria, exports an estimated 27,000 barrels per day of refined petroleum products to Ghana. The Tema Refinery is currently operating at around 28,000 barrels per day, storing output for the first time in several years.

Plans are underway to gradually increase crude processing capacity and upgrade the refinery for increased efficiency.
