Dangote Refinery Hits 650,000 bpd Capacity, Sets Global Record in Oil and Gas Industry

Dangote Refinery has successfully reached its full design capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, marking a significant milestone in the oil and gas industry. The refinery, located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos, Nigeria, is described as the first globally to achieve full nameplate capacity on a single train scale.

The achievement follows the optimization of its crude distillation unit (CDU) and motor spirit (MS) product block, enhancing the facility's steady state operations. The refinery conducted a 72-hour series of performance test runs in collaboration with its technology licensor UOP to validate operational efficiency and ensure critical parameters meet global standards.

The Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Refinery, David Bird, highlighted the advanced engineering and operational resilience of the CDU and MS block. The refinery is expected to stabilize fuel supply, reduce price volatility, and boost downstream industrial growth in Nigeria, including petrochemical and fertilizer production.

With plans for expansion to support additional petrochemical investments, Dangote Refinery aims to enhance Nigeria's energy security and economic growth.
