Gbenga Daniel Defies APC Consensus, Seeks Senate Nomination

Gbenga Daniel, the former governor of Ogun State, has officially expressed his intention to seek re-election to the Nigerian Senate by picking up a nomination form under the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. This decision comes amid rising tensions within the APC in Ogun East, where party leaders reportedly endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun as the consensus candidate for the senatorial ticket.

The endorsement followed a meeting held at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu Ode, attended by various party stakeholders, including grassroots representatives and local leaders. However, Daniel's supporters have contested the process, alleging it was orchestrated to exclude him, as he was reportedly denied access to the meeting venue.

The situation has led to a hardened stance among Daniel's camp, signaling an impending showdown within the APC structure in Ogun East as the 2027 political cycle approaches.
