Danladi Wins Kwara APC Governorship Primary Convincingly

Salihu Yakubu Danladi, the current Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, convincingly won the APC governorship primary held on May 22, 2026, with a total of 94,990 votes. This victory was affirmed by various elders and stakeholders from across the three senatorial districts of Kwara State, who publicly supported his candidacy during a press briefing in Ilorin.

They dismissed earlier claims that certain elements within the party preferred other aspirants, particularly Musiliu Obanikoro. The primary was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere, and no complaints were raised by other gubernatorial aspirants regarding the outcome.

Danladi's campaign has garnered significant youth support, and he is now focused on uniting party members ahead of the 2027 elections. The results showed a strong backing for Danladi, with notable support from local government areas in the northern part of the state.
