Dantsoho’s Strategic Push to Boost Maritime Activities at Eastern Ports

Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), is leading efforts to boost maritime activities at eastern ports as part of the federal government's drive to strengthen Nigeria's economic diversification through a sustainable blue economy. Dantsoho aims to improve ship traffic at ports in Onne, Port Harcourt, and Warri, reviving existing facilities and positioning them for optimal efficiency.

This strategic push is seen as a significant contribution to boosting the national economy and increasing Nigeria's participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Dantsoho has introduced new tariffs, emphasized automation and sustainability, and launched initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and indigenous participation in the maritime sector.

Stakeholders like Indorama have reported higher export tonnage, indicating progress and potential revenue growth for the NPA. The Authority is also working on partnerships with relevant agencies and stakeholders to further drive growth and development in the eastern ports.
