Fayose sworn in as Rural Electrification Agency board chair
Former Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose has been inaugurated as chairman of the REA's governing board, pledging to boost rural electricity access.
After being appointed by President Bola Tinubu, Ayodele Fayose, the former Ekiti State governor, took up his position as head of the Governing Board for the Rural Electrification Agency. The ceremony took place on Friday in Abuja, with Joseph Tegbe, who serves as Minister of Power, presiding over the event.
Five additional individuals received their inaugurations alongside Fayose at the same gathering. Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Makinta joined as non-executive directors and members of the board, accompanied by three others.
Abba Aliyu was sworn in to the Managing Director role during this occasion. At the swearing-in, Fayose expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his appointment.
He outlined his vision for the REA, stressing that advancing institutional performance requires both solid political commitment and securing resources needed to execute planned activities. Before the formal ceremony, Fayose held discussions with the power minister to explore strategies for strengthening operational effectiveness at the agency.
The Rural Electrification Agency operates within the Ministry of Power and holds the mandate to develop electricity infrastructure and boost service availability in underserved rural communities throughout Nigeria. By naming Fayose to lead the board, the government demonstrates its determination to tackle energy access challenges in isolated regions of the country.
