Duane Davis Convicted of Tupac Shakur's Murder

On Monday, a Las Vegas jury convicted Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 63, of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon in the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur. The jury deliberated for only a few hours before announcing the verdict.

Shakur was shot on September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas after attending a boxing match, while he was in a BMW driven by Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight. Prosecutors argued that the shooting was retaliation for an earlier confrontation involving Davis’ nephew.

Davis, a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips, allegedly obtained a firearm and directed another occupant of the Cadillac to shoot Shakur. The case remained unsolved for decades until Davis’ public statements and memoir, "Compton Street Legend," renewed interest in the case.

Following the verdict, Davis expressed his intention to appeal. He faces a potential life sentence without parole.
