Defence Minister Musa Denies Resignation Rumours, Threatens Legal Action

General Christopher Musa, Nigeria's Defence Minister, has firmly rejected reports that he plans to resign from President Bola Tinubu's administration. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday evening after a closed-door meeting with the President at the State House in Abuja, Musa described the rumours as baseless and stated he remains committed to his position.

The Defence Minister expressed bewilderment at the circulation of the claims, saying he was shocked to learn of them. He stated he has never contemplated stepping down and has had no discussions about leaving office.

Musa emphasised that he did not know the origin of the reports or who initiated them. In response to the misinformation, Musa announced his intention to pursue legal remedies against those behind the rumours.

He pledged to identify and take action against the sources of the false reports, describing the claims as deliberate attempts to undermine the administration. The Minister arrived at the Presidential Villa around 3 p.m. on Tuesday and departed approximately an hour later.

Musa used the opportunity to highlight the government's progress in addressing Nigeria's security challenges. He suggested that the timing of the rumours may be connected to recent improvements in the administration's counter-insurgency efforts, noting that opposition to the government sometimes intensifies when security gains are made.
