Delta Assembly Approves 13th-Month Salary for Workers

On Tuesday, the Delta State House of Assembly passed an executive bill to institutionalize the payment of a 13th-month salary for public servants. This legislation, described as a significant milestone in workers' welfare, provides statutory backing for the annual payment.

The bill was passed during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, who praised the Assembly for taking a bold step towards enhancing workers' welfare. The motion to suspend relevant standing orders for immediate passage was moved by Leader of the House Hon Emeka Nwaobi.

Speaker Guwor emphasized that the bill reflects the commitment of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's administration to the welfare of its workforce. The legislation aims to improve morale, productivity, and service delivery among public servants, with Hon Edafe Emakpo, chairman of the House Committee on Establishment, Ethics and Privileges, stating that it establishes a legal framework for the policy.
