Oborevwori Inaugurates Housing, Vehicles for Delta Permanent Secretaries

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Thursday inaugurated 12 four-bedroom residential units built for Permanent Secretaries and distributed an equal number of official vehicles to newly appointed members of the senior civil service in Asaba. The dual project marks what the administration describes as an effort to improve working conditions and productivity within the state bureaucracy.

During the ceremony, Oborevwori disclosed that his personal monthly remuneration stands at ₦503,000, a figure he said is substantially lower than the ₦900,000 earned monthly by Permanent Secretaries in the state. The governor attributed the salary elevation for Permanent Secretaries to complaints from the officials, who noted that certain directors within the civil service were receiving compensation nearly equivalent to their own.

The inauguration ceremony included unveiling of newly constructed internal roads and drainage systems at the Permanent Secretaries' residential quarters. Oborevwori framed the infrastructure projects as part of a broader commitment to supporting senior government officials in executing their administrative duties more efficiently.

The salary structure revealed by the governor reflects a broader pattern across Nigerian states of adjusting compensation for senior civil servants in response to parity concerns within the bureaucracy. The provision of housing and transport allocations to Permanent Secretaries represents a common practice among state governments seeking to enhance retention and performance in critical administrative positions.
