Delta Campaign Group Demands Higher Student Bursaries

The Chris Iyovwaye Campaign Organisation has urged the Delta State Government to raise individual bursary payments for students to N100,000, highlighting the increasing tuition fees and related expenses. Dr Alfred Mulade, the Director-General, made this statement on Tuesday in response to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s awarding of a N50 million educational support fund to Miss Ogheneovo Davina of Model Technical College, Oghareki.
While congratulating Davina, the organization emphasized the necessity for a comprehensive review of educational assistance for all students in the state. Concerns were raised regarding the adequacy of the current bursary payments, with reports indicating some students receive as little as N19,500.
The organization also criticized the N800 non-refundable processing fee for financial assistance applications and called for transparency regarding the amounts disbursed to beneficiaries. They urged the government to publish annual beneficiary figures and develop a realistic funding plan to support increased payments, stressing the importance of consistent investment in education.
