Delta State Urges Youths to Join Nigerian Army Recruitment
• Punch Newspapers • General News
The Delta State government is urging its youth to enlist in the Nigerian Army, with a focus on equitable distribution of recruitment slots across various regions of the country. Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Secretary to the State Government, made this announcement during a courtesy visit from a Nigerian Army recruitment team led by Brig. Gen. Mose Ikobah in Asaba. The state is intensifying its sensitization campaign to boost participation among eligible youths in the recruitment exercise, which began on March 30, 2026, and has a deadline of May 17, 2026. The Nigerian Army aims to enlist 14,000 personnel nationwide, with Delta State allocated approximately 400 slots. However, as of April 7, 2026, only 38,000 applications were recorded nationwide, with Delta State experiencing significantly low participation compared to previous years. Ikobah warned that low participation could result in the state losing its fair share of recruitment slots, thereby limiting its representation in the Nigerian Army.
