Nigerian Army Urges South-East Youth to Enlist

The Nigerian Army has expressed alarm over the low enlistment rates from the South-East geopolitical zone, specifically highlighting Anambra State, which recorded only 117 applications out of a total of 38,000 nationwide as of April 7. Brigadier General Uch Nnabuih, leading an army delegation, conducted a sensitization exercise in Awka, Anambra State's capital, to encourage local youth to join the military.

The campaign aims to correct the imbalance in enlistment and promote the advantages of a military career. The deadline for applications is set for May 27, 2026.

Ogbemudia Osaw noted the benefits of joining the Nigerian Army, including career progression, military education, and welfare packages such as free medical care and pensions. Ifeatu Emodi, the permanent secretary of Anambra State's Ministry of Youth, commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of military enlistment for South Eastern youth and addressing misconceptions about the army.
