Nigerian Army Urges South-East Youths to Enlist

The Nigerian Army has called on youths from the South-East to stop avoiding recruitment exercises and to consider joining the military. This appeal was made during an event in Umuahia on Thursday, where Maj Gen Gold Chibuisi (rtd) delivered a lecture encouraging youth to embrace career opportunities in fields such as medicine, law, and engineering.

He downplayed fears regarding the profiling of Igbo soldiers and dismissed negative narratives about junior soldiers being sent to dangerous war fronts. Maj Gen Chukwunedum Abraham (rtd) highlighted that Imo State recorded 671 applications, while Ebonyi State had only 428, expressing concern over the low figures compared to other geopolitical zones.

Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Maj Gen Musa Awwal, summarized the program aimed at sensitizing youth and opinion leaders about the Nigerian Army's opportunities. Abia State Governor Alex Otti reiterated the need for Abia youths to enroll, noting that the state has been among those with the lowest military enrollment figures in recent years.
