Ogun Officer Shot Dead During Demolition Exercise

On February 23, 2026, Oluwaseyi Adeoy, an enforcement officer with the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, was shot dead by an unidentified soldier during a demolition exercise in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. The demolition team, led by Hamzat Ibrahim, was tasked with removing illegal structures when military personnel intervened, resulting in a clash.

Ibrahim recounted that the soldier opened fire, causing chaos as workers scrambled for safety. Adeoy was rushed to a state hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The incident has drawn criticism, with Kolawole Obadeyi, chairman of the Concrete Dealers Association, blaming the demolition team leader for the clash. Ogun State's Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tunji Odulami, expressed condolences and assured that investigations are ongoing to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The police public relations officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the investigation into the incident.
