Barau Jibrin Accused of Forcing Gawuna Out of APC

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin faces allegations of orchestrating the exit of Yusuf Gawuna from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State. The Progress Leaders Forum, a faction within the APC, publicly accused Barau of sidelining Gawuna, who was the APC's gubernatorial candidate in 2023.

Following Gawuna's departure, he has reportedly moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), prompting discussions about the political landscape in Kano. The forum's statement, released in Abuja on Thursday and signed by its national coordinator Hafiz Idri, claims that Barau's actions contributed to Gawuna's loss in the gubernatorial race against Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Gawuna's former running mate, Murtala Sule Garo, is also mentioned, with concerns raised about efforts to block his emergence as the next deputy governor of Kano State. Despite Garo's loyalty to Barau, the forum warns that Barau's maneuvers could deepen divisions within the APC and weaken the party ahead of future elections.
