APC Demands INEC to Deregister ADC Before 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from the list of parties eligible to contest in the 2027 general elections. Ajibola Basiru, speaking during an interview on Arise Television, argued that the ADC has failed to meet electoral standards, which complicates the voting process and weakens the electoral system.

He emphasized that Nigeria's ballot papers should not be overcrowded with parties that lack visible electoral relevance and structure. Basiru stated that the APC's request is not politically motivated but rather a call for compliance with existing laws governing party registration.

He highlighted that the Nigerian Constitution allows for the deregistration of political parties that do not meet certain electoral thresholds. Furthermore, Basiru mentioned ongoing legal efforts to support the deregistration of the ADC, reinforcing the need for INEC to act in accordance with constitutional requirements ahead of the 2027 elections.
