Ondo NDC Rejects Court Ruling on Party Registration

The Ondo State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected a ruling from the Federal High Court in Kogi State that set aside an earlier judgment which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party. Ondo State Chairman Kennedi Peretei expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling delivered by Justice Isah Dashen, which followed INEC's refusal to register the NDC.

The party plans to appeal the decision, maintaining that they have the constitutional right to associate and operate within the framework of the Electoral Act 2026. Peretei argued that the trial court had become functus officio after delivering its final judgment, which had already determined issues related to the party's name, symbol, and color.

The NDC emphasizes that no order was made for their deregistration, and they are committed to advancing credible political alternatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
