Gusau–Mafara Road Faces Insecurity and Deterioration

Residents and travelers along the Gusau–Mafara corridor in Zamfara state are experiencing a significant crisis characterized by insecurity, transport collapse, and road failure. Public affairs analyst Yusuf Digyadi reported that the road's condition has deteriorated severely, complicating movement within the state.

He identified three major challenges affecting the route: insecurity from armed bandits who routinely target commuters, worsening potholes, and the overall dangerous nature of travel along the Bungudu–Mafara axis. Digyadi noted that what began as isolated incidents of banditry in 2011 has escalated over the years, leading to a situation where the road is largely empty as people avoid traveling due to safety concerns.

The combination of these factors has effectively isolated communities and made daily movement both risky and costly.
