Peter Obi Denies Rejecting Atiku's VP Offer for 2027

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has refuted claims that he declined an offer to serve as Atiku Abubakar's running mate in the upcoming 2027 elections. During an interview on Arise TV, Obi clarified that he had previously stated he would not accept a vice-presidential position from any candidate.

He outright denied the account of rejecting the offer. Obi emphasized that discussions regarding potential alliances should not be treated as private negotiations but rather as a corporate merger, requiring both parties to work through their respective structures.

This clarification comes in the context of a previously collapsed opposition alliance formed in 2025, where Obi, Atiku, and other opposition figures united under the ADC to challenge the ruling party. Following the dissolution of this coalition, Obi became the NDC's flag-bearer while Atiku remained the ADC's standard-bearer.

Obi previously served as Atiku's running mate during the 2019 presidential election but both competed against each other in the 2023 elections.
