Ogun State Digital Tax System Reduces Corruption and Leakages

The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) announced that the digitalization of tax administration has significantly reduced revenue leakages and corruption, promoting transparency and accountability. Executive Chairman Olugbenga Olaleye made this statement during a survey interview conducted by Oluwayemisi Oladipupo from the Nigeria Economic Summit Group regarding the 2026 Tax Reforms in Abeokuta.
Represented by Coordinating Director Taiwo Ogundimu, Olaleye stated that the reforms aim to address tax inequality and lessen the burden on low-income earners. He noted that increased taxpayer compliance would provide necessary resources for government development projects and public services.
Olaleye urged taxpayers to fulfill their civic responsibilities promptly and mentioned ongoing media efforts to educate them on tax payment processes. He also requested support from the Nigeria Economic Summit Group for operational equipment to enhance efficiency.
Zonal Controller Adewale Adelani clarified that while local governments collect approved levies, OGIRS is the statutory authority for tax collection in Ogun State. Tax Office Manager Monsuru Lawal suggested mandatory display of registered business names to improve tax compliance.
