FCT-IRS Launches TaxPorta Digital Tax Platform

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) unveiled TaxPorta, a new digital tax management platform, to improve tax compliance in Nigeria. The launch occurred during a stakeholder engagement event at the National Assembly Library Trust Fund complex in Abuja, led by Executive Chairman Michael Ango.

TaxPorta enables taxpayers to register, file returns, make payments, and obtain tax clearance certificates online, thus modernizing tax administration and promoting voluntary compliance ahead of Nigeria's 2025 tax reform. Ango noted that the platform is designed to facilitate virtual tax-related transactions without the need for physical office visits.

It integrates self-service features that reflect new tax laws and automatically applies statutory reliefs. The FCT-IRS aims to maximize revenue collection, targeting an eventual collection of 600 billion Naira.

Ango emphasized a focus on voluntary compliance rather than punitive measures, stating that extensions would be granted for genuine delays. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance collaboration among government institutions and improve mutual understanding regarding tax obligations.
