Dino Melaye's Anthem Calls for Fuel Subsidy Return

Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has launched a political anthem named ‘Fuel Subsidy Return’, advocating for the reinstatement of fuel subsidy in Nigeria. He performed the song at a political gathering in Abuja, connecting the call to the presidential ambitions of Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the 2027 election.

The anthem addresses the economic difficulties Nigerians have encountered since President Bola Tinubu's administration removed the petrol subsidy. Melaye emphasized the phrase ‘it’s coming back again’ during his performance, referencing Atiku’s commitment to reintroduce a targeted subsidy if elected.

Atiku has defended his stance, asserting that Nigerians should not endure high energy and transportation costs alone. He reiterated on August 25, 2026, that he would restore the subsidy, arguing that Nigeria's wealth should ensure citizens are not left in hardship.

The Federal Government defends the subsidy removal, citing financial burdens, while opposition figures question its impact on ordinary Nigerians.
