Melaye Accuses Tinubu of Fuel Subsidy Vote Buying

Former Kogi West senator Dino Melaye has publicly accused President Bola Tinubu of allocating fuel subsidy funds to Nigerian governors in exchange for their support in the upcoming 2027 elections. Melaye made these allegations in a post on his 𝕏 account, asserting that Tinubu has recognized that the governors are unable to secure votes for him.

He stated, “You took money away from Nigerians in the name of subsidy removal and gave it to the Governors in return for their votes and support.” Melaye's comments come in the context of the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, who has promised to reinstate the fuel subsidy if elected, arguing that its removal has not benefited Nigerians. Melaye concluded that Tinubu's attempts to regain support from the public are futile, as he previously took money from them and is now trying to hold the governors accountable.
