Displaced Children Embrace Makeshift Schools

Displaced children in Nigeria are finding hope in makeshift schools set up in old shipping containers. The SchoolBox initiative, pioneered by Offshore Lab, has transformed retired containers into fully functional classrooms, providing a safe and structured learning environment for hundreds of children living in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

The innovative concept has been well-received by both students and educators, with students expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn in a proper classroom setting. The goal is to deploy SchoolBox units across Nigeria to reach every displaced community and ensure that every child has access to education.

In a similar grassroots effort, volunteer teachers in the New Kuchingoro camp in Abuja are also providing education to IDP children displaced since 2014. The initiative has been commended for its impact and there is a growing need for educational support in IDP camps across the country.
