APC's Nwoy Advocates Mediation to Resolve Political Disputes

Dr. Ben Nwoy, the Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), called for political parties to embrace mediation and reconciliation strategies to address internal disputes and minimize electoral violence.

Speaking at the annual lecture of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) in Enugu State, Nwoy argued that effective conflict management could significantly reduce political violence and litigation across Nigeria. He noted that many political office holders emerge without formal training in conflict resolution, which contributes to escalating disputes.

Nwoy emphasized that proper training for local actors at various levels of government would help manage political crises without resorting to violence. He cited disputes over candidate nominations as examples where dialogue could replace prolonged litigation.

Godwin Omoaka, representing the ICMC, supported the need for institutional mediation in the electoral process, advocating for peaceful management of post-election tensions and collaboration among stakeholders to promote electoral peace and stability in Nigeria.
