Nigeria Police Pledges Neutrality for 2027 Elections

On Wednesday, Olatunji Disu, the Inspector General of Police, declared that the Nigeria Police Force would maintain strict neutrality in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. During the inauguration of a strategic police management conference in Abuja, Disu assured that the police would conduct themselves impartially to protect the electoral process and uphold democratic institutions.

He emphasized the importance of a credible police force in stabilizing Nigeria's democracy and warned that any officer found compromising neutrality or violating electoral laws would face swift disciplinary measures, including dismissal and prosecution. Disu highlighted the need for law enforcement to engage with the electorate without intimidation and to ensure that citizens can exercise their civic rights freely.

He also reiterated the commitment to internal reforms aimed at restoring public trust in the police and condemned any misconduct, corruption, or abuse of power within the force. Disu stressed that no officer is above the law and that accountability would be enforced rigorously.
