Yobe APC Chairman Urges Women to Divorce Uncooperative Husbands

On Thursday, Muhammad Gadaka, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State, made a controversial statement at an APC campaign rally in Nangere, urging women to divorce husbands who stop them from voting for the party. He controversially offered to pay the dowries of any woman who would leave her husband under such circumstances.

This statement drew significant criticism from residents and Islamic scholars, who labeled it reckless and provocative, warning of potential negative impacts on family values. In response to the backlash, Gadaka issued an apology the following day, clarifying that his comments were intended as a joke and did not reflect his true beliefs or intentions regarding marriage.

He emphasized that he did not advocate for divorce among married couples. The controversy arose shortly after another APC official, Sainna Buba, faced criticism for threatening violence against those who do not support the party in the upcoming 2027 elections.
