UNILAG Issues Anti-Rape Advisories for Female Students

On Monday, the University of Lagos, through its Student Affairs Division, released a set of anti-rape advisories aimed at female students to enhance their safety on campus. The advisory, displayed on a roll-up banner, includes precautionary measures such as avoiding casual handshakes with men, not dressing provocatively, and being vigilant about drinks.

This initiative is a response to increasing reports of sexual assault and rape within the university community. Notably, a recent court case involved a 20-year-old undergraduate who testified that she was allegedly raped by her lecturer, Dr Samuel Ojogbo, on August 22, 2025, in his office.

The university has previously faced incidents of sexual violence, including a 2019 case where five students were arraigned for gang-raping a 17-year-old student. The university's efforts aim to educate female students on personal safety and reduce the risk of sexual harassment and assault.
