NANS Accuses Ondo University HOD of Sexual Coercion

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), represented by President Akintey Babatund, accused a Head of Department at a university in Ondo State of coercing a female student into performing sexual acts to secure passing marks in a compulsory course necessary for graduation. The incident reportedly involved the lecturer demanding sexual favors in exchange for a passing grade, with the student alleging that she felt trapped and had no option but to comply.

After failing the course, the student approached the lecturer for clarification and was allegedly told that she could pass if she engaged in sexual acts. Following the incident, the student expressed fear of further victimization and chose not to escalate the matter publicly.

However, she later contacted relevant authorities within the institution, which led to her completing her academic process. NANS emphasized that such incidents reflect a broader issue of sexual exploitation in tertiary institutions and urged female students to report harassment without fear of retaliation.
