FERMA Urges Abia Residents to Protect New Roads

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has made an appeal to residents of Abia, particularly road users in Aba and Azumini, to avoid burning tyres on newly completed roads. Suleiman Moham Omonowo, the South East 2 Zonal Director of FERMA, warned that this practice could lead to significant damage to the roads, which have recently undergone construction.

Omonowo highlighted that the burning of tyres during festivities is harmful and contributes to the deterioration of road quality across the country. He advised community members to protect the roads instead of destroying them in the name of celebration.

The agency expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done by the contractors on the roads, which are crucial for heavy traffic between Aba and Cross River State. Omonowo also urged Nigerian construction companies to ensure quality delivery to effectively compete with foreign firms.

Additionally, he noted that FERMA workers should not face harassment or violence from local youths during their operations in Abia State.
