FERMA to Install Safety Measures After Student Protests

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has assured residents of Oyo State that it will install safety measures, including speed breakers, on the recently rehabilitated Ago Saki road, which is a busy highway. This commitment follows a protest by students from Baptist Secondary Grammar School, who expressed concerns about the dangers posed by speeding vehicles and heavy-duty trucks along the road.

The protest highlighted the urgent need for traffic calming measures, as students described the situation as a critical safety threat. Olatund Adepoju, the FERMA engineer for Oyo State, addressed the media, stating that the agency is aware of the situation and will take action.

The students' protest gained traction on social media, prompting a response from FERMA, which plans to conduct a site visit to assess the situation further. Additionally, FERMA disclosed plans to rehabilitate failing sections of the Ojebu-Od/Igbeti road and the Ogbomoso-Kisi road, with work scheduled to commence soon.
