Court Warns Against Media Discussion of Tinubu's Case

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo, cautioned lawyers involved in a suit against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding his eligibility for the 2027 presidential election not to discuss the case in public. This warning was issued during preliminary hearings on September 26, 2023, in a case brought by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The suit revolves around allegations concerning discrepancies in Tinubu's NYSC discharge certificate, specifically the difference between the name "Tinubu Bola Adekunle" on the document and "Bola Ahmed Tinubu," the name by which he is officially recognized. The court addressed issues of proper service of documents, with Atiku's lawyer, Joseph Onu, insisting on personal service to avoid technicalities.

Tinubu's lawyer, Omosanya Popoola, was present, and INEC's counsel, Alex Iziyon, argued against the need for personal service. Justice Ekwo set the next mention for September 28, 2023, with the case registered as FHC/ABJ/CS/1888/2026.
