DRC Faces Worst Ebola Outbreak with Over 7,000 Cases

The Democratic Republic of Congo is experiencing its worst Ebola outbreak, with over 7,000 cases recorded since mid-May, according to Congolese authorities. The outbreak has resulted in 3,398 deaths and 1,671 recoveries.

It originated in Ituri province and has spread to conflict-affected regions, including South-Ubangi, which borders the Central African Republic and Congo-Brazzaville. The presence of armed groups and weak health infrastructure complicate the response.

Concerns have escalated as Ebola has been detected in schools, prompting anxiety among parents like Angele Magani, who expressed fear about their children's health status. School official Roger Mungimbo stated that measures such as mandatory hand-washing and limited class sizes have been implemented to mitigate risks.

Ebola, transmitted through bodily fluids, has claimed over 15,000 lives in Africa over the past 50 years, causing severe health complications.
