Truck Driver Arrested After Fatal Lagos Accident

A tragic road accident occurred near the Iyana Iba Flyover on the Badagry Expressway in Lagos State, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. According to Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver was speeding when he struck a pedestrian and failed to stop after the initial impact.

The driver continued driving, prompting a motorcycle rider to pursue him. During the chase, the truck allegedly rammed into the motorcycle, killing the rider instantly while the second occupant escaped unhurt.

LASTMA officials apprehended the truck driver as he attempted to flee the accident scene, and he was handed over to the police for further investigation. The bodies of the deceased were evacuated, and LASTMA's General Manager, Olalekan Bakar Oki, expressed condolences to the victims' families, emphasizing the dangers of reckless driving, particularly by heavy-duty truck operators.
