Speeding Truck Kills WASSCE Candidate in Rivers State

A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday evening when a speeding truck lost control and crashed into a motorcycle carrying a West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidate, identified as Juliet, in Rivers State. The incident took place along the Choba axis of the East-West Road in the Obio Akpor Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, which was moving at high speed, veered off its lane and collided with the motorcycle, which was transporting Juliet home after she completed her examination. Heavy rainfall in the area at the time is believed to have contributed to the driver losing control.

The Rivers State Police Command, represented by spokesperson Bless Agab, confirmed the arrest of the truck driver and stated that an investigation is underway. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

This incident has raised renewed concerns about reckless driving and road safety, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
