Driver Steals Employer's Car, Accomplice Arrested in Ogun

Waidi Olajide Kolawole, a driver, allegedly stole a 2016 Toyota Camry belonging to an Indian national based at the Ilupeju Industrial Estate, Lagos, just two days after being hired. The theft occurred on September 9, 2026, when Kolawole informed his employer that he was taking the vehicle to a nearby vulcaniser for tyre repair but instead absconded with it.
The Ogun State Police, led by DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, tracked the vehicle to a hotel in Ifo within eight hours of the incident. Upon the police's arrival at the hotel around 8:30 PM, Kolawole fled with the ignition key, while his accomplice, Monday Adetunji, was arrested.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had attempted to have a mechanic remove the vehicle's catalytic converter, but the mechanic refused. The police secured the recovered vehicle and are continuing efforts to apprehend Kolawole and investigate the full circumstances of the theft.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the operatives for their swift action and urged vehicle owners to implement anti-theft measures.
