Drug Peddlers Should Be Made to Wash Public Toilets, AGF Fagbemi Demands

Attorney General and Federation Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has called for a review of Nigeria's sentencing guidelines to include community service for convicted drug offenders. He suggested that drug peddlers should be made to wash public toilets as a form of punishment to deter others from committing similar crimes.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently commissioned 46 operational vehicles, with Chairman Buba Marwa noting the significance of the new fleet in combating drug abuse, which he identified as a major security issue in Nigeria. Between January 2024 and June 2025, the NDLEA confiscated a large quantity of illicit drugs, including 1 billion pills of Tramadol and millions of bottles of codeine.

Chief Defence Staff Christopher Musa commended the agency's efforts in fighting narcotics, while the Bureau of Public Procurement praised the NDLEA for adhering to due process in acquiring the vehicles. AGF Fagbemi has also defended President Tinub.
