Court Dismisses Nigerian's Extradition Block to Italy

On September 7, 2026, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Obiora Egwatu, dismissed an application by Rowane Isah Ebisan to block his extradition to Italy. Ebisan was sentenced to 21 years, 11 months, and 16 days in prison by the Court of Appeal of Naples on May 23, 2018, for illicit possession and trafficking of drugs.

The sentence became final on September 12, 2019. Ebisan's legal team sought to discharge him from extradition proceedings initiated by the Federal Government, which were supported by a counter-affidavit from the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), represented by Shafiu Mahmud, Esq.

The AGF confirmed that a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) had been issued against Ebisan, which Nigerian authorities acted upon. Justice Egwatu noted the existence of a domesticated Extradition Treaty between Nigeria and Italy and found no merit in Ebisan's application, leading to its dismissal.
