HURIWA Demands DSS Arrest of Igboho Over Threats

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has urged the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest Sunday Igboho following threats he allegedly made against political figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, warning them against campaigning in Yoruba Land. HURIWA's National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, described these threats as a serious danger to Nigeria's democracy and called for immediate action to prevent a breakdown of law and order ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The organization highlighted that Nigeria's constitution guarantees citizens' rights to political participation and warned that unchecked threats could escalate political tensions and create fear among voters. HURIWA also expressed concern over inflammatory rhetoric from political actors, referencing comments made by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga that could encourage hostility.

The group insists that the DSS and police must investigate the matter to uphold the rule of law and protect democratic freedoms across Nigeria.
