DSS Releases Wrongfully Detained Nura Idris with Compensation

The Department of State Services (DSS) has compensated and released Nura Idris, a man wrongfully linked to Boko Haram. Following a comprehensive review by an investigative panel, the DSS found no evidence supporting the allegations against Idris, prompting the Director General, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, to order his immediate release.

Idris, a farmer and livestock rearer from Soba Local Government Area in Kaduna State, was arrested in June 2024 in Suleja, Niger State. He received N3 million in compensation to assist in rebuilding his business.

Idris expressed gratitude towards the DSS for their support, stating that it would enable him to rebuild his life. The DSS has committed to providing further assistance, including psychological and medical support, as part of their approach to ensure individuals wrongfully detained are not kept unnecessarily in custody.

This case is part of an internal review exercise initiated by the DSS to reassess prolonged detention cases.
