DSS Releases Wrongfully Arrested Herder, Grants Compensation

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Idri, a herder from Soba Local Government Area in Kaduna State, who was wrongfully arrested in June 2024 on allegations of terrorism links. Following a comprehensive review by an investigative panel, it was established that there was no evidence linking Idri to Boko Haram terrorists.

Consequently, DSS Director General Oluwatosin Ajayi ordered his immediate release and approved a compensation of N3 million to assist Idri in establishing a business. Idri expressed gratitude towards the DSS for their support, stating it would enable him to rebuild his life.

The DSS has initiated a review exercise to reassess prolonged detention cases to ensure that individuals wrongfully detained are released and compensated. This initiative is part of the DSS's efforts to enhance its reputation as an institution committed to human rights while safeguarding national security.
