DSS Intercepts Arms Cache in Zamfara, Arrests Courier

The Department of State Services (DSS) intercepted an arms cache in Zamfara and arrested a suspect identified as a courier for transporting weapons intended for a notorious bandit leader. The operation took place on Friday in the Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, following intelligence reports.

The suspect was apprehended while moving the cache of arms and ammunition from Maigatari Local Government Area in Jigawa State to Funtua in Katsina State for delivery to criminal elements. Items recovered from the suspect included three AK-47 rifles, four rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) tubes, warheads, and two empty magazines.

Preliminary investigations linked the suspect to a bandit kingpin believed to operate in Zamfara. The suspect confessed to being contracted to transport the weapons from Maigatari to Funtua, with a promised payment of N450,000 upon successful delivery.

The investigation is ongoing to unravel the network behind the arms movement and identify collaborators involved in the operation. The DSS described the arrest as a major breakthrough in efforts to disrupt the supply of arms and ammunition to criminal groups responsible for violent attacks and kidnappings in Northwest Nigeria.
