D’Tigress Prepare for 2026 FIBA World Cup in Germany

D’Tigress are in the final phase of preparations for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, scheduled from September 4 to 13 in Germany. They are awaiting the arrival of head coach Rena Wakama, who is currently in the United States due to her commitments with the WNBA franchise Chicago Sky.

Wakama is expected to rejoin the team before the tournament. The team has had a challenging build-up, winning only one of their five warm-up games, including losses to China, Spain, and Belgium.

They began their preparations with a training camp in Chicago from July 29 to August 2, followed by a three-game exhibition series in China and further matches in Spain. The final phase of their preparation will take place in Zaragoza, including games against Mali and Puerto Rico.

D’Tigress, who won the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, will make their third World Cup appearance, having previously participated in 2006 and 2018, with their best performance in 2018 when they reached the quarter-finals.
